World Humanitarian Day, 19 August, is a time to recognize those who face danger and adversity in order to help others.
The World Health Organization (WHO) is calling peoples to recognize the efforts of health workers and honour them on World Humanitarian Day through a campaign focusing on health workers.
The attempt is to shine a spotlight on those who provide healthcare under challenging circumstances, whether it be in a conflict, natural disaster or resource poor settings.
An online campaign #ThanksHealthHero aims to gather tributes to honour the efforts of health professionals. Between World Humanitarian Day and the World Humanitarian Summit in May 2016, people around the world are invited to send messages of thanks via social media.
