I am given to understand that a letter of release from the journal will suffice to publish the ‘traditional’ way.

That is a BIG relief monetarily, although I am still anguished by the potential deviation from the open access philosophy.

I would really like to do my part to help keep knowledge accessible to all. Maybe the most pragmatic solution would be to ‘ensure’ the book retails at a very affordable price?
